NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, June 25: A row between the Awam Dost panel members and the convener caused the police to intervene in the district council hall on Tuesday.
The district council session started at the district council hall under the convenership of Syed Hassan Ali Shah.
While debating an agenda point regarding the payment of Rs2.4 million a liability of district council prior to devolution, Awam Dost member and Nazim Union Council Phull, Abdul Waheed Abbasi, complained that it was not a good practice as members of the district council belonging to the Awam Dost Panel were informed about the session only one day before.
He said that presenting a motion for approval of Rs2.4 million a huge amount of expenditure for which they were not aware was another injustice.
The convener was annoyed on the arguments of Mr Abbasi and directed him to leave the session.
Mr Abbasi and Munawar Beg from Mehrabpur questioned the attitude of the convener.
A dispute started between the Awam Dost members and the convener.
Following a heated debate, police were called out while the Awam Dost members staged a walkout.
Talking to this correspondent, the leader of the Awam Dost Panel, Syed Abrar Shah, and Nazim Union Council Halani condemned the attitude and action of the convener, Syed Hassan Ali Shah, and complained that the convener, who was also acting district Nazim, was treating the Awam Dost members as if they were his servants and the district council hall as his personal residence.
