Prisoners transferred

HARIPUR, June 25: Owing to demolition of Peshawar central prison 43 women prisoners have been transferred to Haripur central prison.

This is the first time in the history of the central prison Haripur when a woman cell was created there. According to official sources these prisoners included Nigerians who had been jailed on the charge of drug trafficking and six children below the age of five years.

Among these women there is a prisoner who had been awarded death sentence for killing her husband. She was reportedly put in a death cell originally meant for male prisoners.

The prison which was meant for 1,300 prisoners is stuffed with over 1,700 prisoners, including the Taliban.
