KARACHI, June 25: The City District Government Karachi has allocated a sum of Rs4693 million for expenditures, pertaining to works and services during the fiscal year 2002-03.
It allocated another amount of Rs3567.90 million for Towns and Union Councils. Rs865.94 million were earmarked for health and Rs694.77 million for education.
According to the city government’s budget documents, in the overall sectoral allocations, excluding the shares of Towns and Union Councils, the major share (31 per cent) would go to the education sector.
The sector-wise allocations are: Education - Rs5202.50 million; Communication and Development - Rs4965.71 million; Health - Rs1639.71 million; Malir Development Project - Rs1573 million; Lyari Development Project - Rs1176.43 million; others - Rs2381 million.
A total of 2222.75 million would go to establishment, while an amount to the tune of Rs5587.56 million has been allocated under the head of salary and non-salary (devolved departments).
The government would also pay Rs20 million as subsidy to the sewerage authority, while Rs1101.22 million have been allocated for the defunct KDA’s dues/adjustments.
An amount of Rs187.45million has been allocated for the master plan department, while the community development department would get Rs152.59 million. An sum of Rs66.86 million would go to the information technology department, while the finance and planning department would get Rs244.82 million.
Besides the government’s grants and other releases and revenue, the city government expect to receive from works and services department (Rs1691 million); finance and planning (845.71mn); health (Rs347.55mn); master plan/KBCA (Rs275.72mn); education (Rs134.91mn); and transport and communication (Rs101.40mn).
The government expects to earn an amount of Rs100 million as fire tax, which is almost double of the last year’s income in the same account; Rs60 million as car parking; Rs12 million as charges for cyber/internet cafe registration or renewal and income through proposed information technology park.
