KOHAT, June 24: District police have arrested a senior official of the Commissionerate of Afghan Refugees, his son, brother-in-law and the driver from Kurram Agency in the high profile kidnapping case of former NBP zonal chief, a well placed source in the police department informed Dawn on Monday.
NBP (National Bank of Pakistan) ex-official Mohammad Shujaa was kidnapped when he was on his way home in KDA Township from city in his private car at around 11.30pm on Thursday last.
Eye witnesses told the police that some gunmen had stopped Mr Shujaa, exchanged with him hot words, dragged him out of the car and finally took him away in another car.
The police arrested commissionerate administrator Abdul Subhan, his son Abdul Waheed, brother-in-law Zainul Abideen and driver Islam Gul after receiving a formal complaint after two days of the incident.
The official vehicle of the administrator was also seized which, the police said, had been used in the crime.
The wife of the victim had nominated the arrested persons in the FIR, and told the police that Subhan had sent a marriage proposal of his son to her daughter. And when they refused, the accused kidnapped her husband in retaliation, she claimed.
The arrested were handed over to the investigation branch on a three-day remand. But so far the whereabouts of the victim could not be traced.
KIDNAPPED BOYS: Two young boys reached their homes on Monday after remaining in the captivity for 52 days at an unknown place, police claimed.
The boys — Fawad, 18 and Tahzeeb, 25 — were kidnapped in the first week of May 2002 from Toghbala, 7km from here, when they were travelling in a public transport on the Rawalpindi Road.
The CIA on Monday claimed that the victims were recovered after hectic efforts and negotiations with the kidnappers. The boys were released at an unknown place from where they had to travel for 22 hours to reach their homes.
