QUETTA, June 24: An inter-provincial meeting here on Monday decided to continue close coordination between Sindh and Balochistan for checking crime in the border areas between the two provinces.
Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro, Balochistan Governor Amirul Mulk Mengal and senior officials attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed steps to check crime in the border areas and stressed the need for close coordination between officials of the provinces.
According to sources, the meeting decided to establish checkpoints at Sindh-Balochistan border and conduct joint operation against criminals. The provinces will exchange information about criminals.
It was decided that such meetings would be held in future to review the law and order situation.
A meeting held to discuss provision of Balochistan’s water share, was informed by officials of the provincial irrigation department that Sindh was not releasing the share of Balochistan according to Indus River System Authority’s decision, causing difficulties in the canal irrigated area of Nasirabad, where rice crop was badly affected. Sources said that Sindh irrigation department officials explained their position in this regard. However, the participants assured that Balochistan would be provided its share of water.
In another meeting, the governors discussed problems being faced by the fishermen of coastal areas of the provinces. Sources said it was decided that the provincial governments would take measures for discouraging illegal fishing.
Chief secretaries, police inspectors-general and home secretaries of the provinces, Sindh rangers director-general, Frontier Corps inspector-general, Balochistan Agriculture and Food Minister Haji Qasim Achakzai, fisheries secretary and Nazims of Lasbela and Gwadar also attended the meetings.
