KARACHI, Nov 1: A tough contest for memberships of the district public safety commission is expected as 20 candidates are still in the field for a total of six members who would be representing the city district council on the commission.
The city district council would meet on Saturday with Naib Nazim, Tariq Hassan, as presiding officer, to elect six members (four male and two female) for the district public safety commission.
The number of candidates aspiring for the membership of the commission after the withdrawal of five nomination papers on Wednesday stands at 20, 11 males and 9 females.
The election of the three presiding officers of the council would be held the same day at the city government’s council hall between 2 pm and 6 pm.
Seven candidates are in the run for three posts of the council’s presiding officers.
However, the elections of the three presiding officers and six members of the commission will be held under Section 28 (1) of Sindh Councils (Conduct of Business) Rules-1980, as the SLGO-2001 has spelled out the procedure for conducting such elections.
Though the city council would also form as many as 32 committees for monitoring the performance of the city district government’s various departments, the schedule for electing members of these committees would be announced shortly.
