KARACHI, Nov 1: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said maintenance of law and order is the primary responsibility of the government which would be ensured at all costs.

Directing the authorities to take action without fear or favour against those violating law, he said there was freedom of expression, but no individual or group would be allowed to impose their will on others or resort to violence and to cause disruption of life.

Governor Soomro, who was presiding over a meeting on Thursday in the Governor’s House, stressed the need to take necessary measures to maintain law and order in the province in the light of the decisions of the federal cabinet on Wednesday.

He urged the authorities to take all necessary measures to maintain smooth daily life, including educational and economic activities.

The meeting also reviewed the arrangements taken for security at churches in the province.

The governor ordered a detailed investigation of an incident at Bugti police station. The IG Police denied the reports about kidnapping of three persons in Kashmore on Wednesday saying that no such incident had taken place within the province.

He emphasized the need for taking special and coordinated actions to check highway robberies, kidnappings and car hijackings, with the cooperation of the Balochistan police.

Those present at the meeting were, among others, Chief Secretary Javed Ashraf Husain, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Shahid Tirmizi, Principal Secretary to the Governor Brig Akhtar Zamin (retd), IG Police Syed Kamal Shah and Home Secretary Brig Mukhtar Ahmad (retd).

Later, talking to a delegation of the President’s Task Force on Human Development, the governor said the Sindh government had been working on a coordinated programme to increase literacy rate, to provide health and education facilities at the grassroots level and for the revival of the economy of the province. To attain these objectives community participation at the grassroots level was being ensured.

NGOs and government institutions had been striving and paying attention to a better use of human resources, the governor said and assured the task force of full cooperation for attaining its target.
