ISLAMABAD, June 23: Water supply to the Capital has been increased by six million gallons per day, a CDA spokesman told Dawn.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) supplies 56MGD from its several sources and with the addition of 6MGD the total supply to the city would increase to 62MGD, he said. He said a couple of days ago, the supply from the dam was reported at 23MGD, which had now been increased to 29MGD.
Giving the breakup of the total supply from different sources, the spokesman said, besides the supply from Simly Dam, 23MGD was being obtained from all tubewells, six from augmentation scheme, three from Khanpur Dam and 1MGD from other sources like Noorpur project, Kurang River, etc.
Following the increase in supply, the authority has also enhanced time by an hour.
He claimed that the CDA was supplying 10MGD more water these days than last year’s 52MGD. He said due to timely rationing of water, the dam’s present level had increased by seven feet than June last year. The authority, he said, was supplying water to the capital on alternate days from the existing reserves.
Responding to a question as to why the supply had been increased despite depleting water reserves, the CDA spokesman said experts of the meteorological department had forecast that the monsoon season would start from the first week of July which would increase the reserves.
