ANP hails Karzai’s election

PESHAWAR, June 22: The Awami National Party has welcomed the election of Hamid Karzai and his cabinet members by the Loya Jirga.

In a press release issued here on Saturday, the Central Information Secretary of the party, Haji Mohammad Adeel, expressed the hope that the newly-elected president and his cabinet members would play their role for restoring a lasting peace to their war-ravaged country.

He said it was a historic occasion that 1600 delegates, representing different tribes and ethnic groups, elected the new Afghan setup through a democratic process.

He appreciated the democratic attitude of the members of the Loya Jirga.
