SANGHAR, June 22: An amount of Rs2.79 million was distributed among the zakat-deserving people of taluka Sanghar under the Mustaqil Rozgar (permanent earning) Scheme here on Saturday.
The distribution of cheques among 177 applicants was supervised by Captain Khalid of army and Haji Ismail Halepoto, the chairman of local Zakat Committee in presence of local district and police authorities besides notables of the area. The individual amount ranged from Rs5,000 to Rs50,000.
The list of deserving people was finalized by the concerned UCs and endorsed by the local zakat councils.
Speaking on the occasion, the DCO, Abdul Rehman Tareen, said that a check would maintained on the proper utilization of the amount by the recipients and the process would start after a fortnight. He said that the recipients were supposed to start their business and prove that the aid had not gone waste so that the next instalment could be disbursed to them.
He also cautioned them to refrain from misusing the amount for which the local zakat chairman would be held responsible.
ROBBERY: A gang of seven armed men barged into the house of a tapedar, Muhammad Ismail Rajar, in Nizamani Mohalla here late on Friday and after tying the inmates with ropes, took away cash, domestic appliances and other valuables.
ARRESTED: Sinjhoro police arrested a man, Muhammad Hassan, late on Friday and claimed to have recovered from his possession a pistol and three letters containing ransom demand on behalf of dacoits, Adloo Khoso and Yousuf Mari.
They said that the letters were addressed to some landlords of the area.
Another person was picked up with an illegal pistol from an area near Sim Mori but his name was not disclosed.
