Killer awarded death

SAHIWAL, June 20: The additional district and sessions judge on Thursday awarded death sentence to the killer of a retired army man and life term to his father. The court also ordered payment of Rs50,000 as compensation.

According to the prosecution, Liauqat Ali had shot dead Muhammad Ali over a minor issue on April 15, 1996, in Chak 65-GD.

The court also acquitted Wazir Ali, Iqbal and Naseer, the relatives of the convict.

ACCOUNTS DEFREEZED: The Punjab government has defreezed funds of market committees in the province with the exception of 19 committees.

Funds of these committees were frozen on Feb 26 this year.

The funds of the following committees have not been defreezed: Rahim Yar Khan, Lahore, Nankana, Muridke, Warburton, Jalalpur Pirwala, Khanpur, Pakpattan, Arifwala, Okara, Jhang, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Renala Khurd, Deepalpur, Sahiwal, Sadiqabad, Kot Lakhpat and Jaranwala.
