Tribesmen end protest march

GILGIT, June 20: Officials of the law enforcing agencies have successfully persuaded the people of Ghizer District of the northern areas into going back to their homes, assuring them that the controversy over Shandur’s ownership would be resolved through new demarcations next month.

Police sources told Dawn that thousands of the tribesmen started a protest march towards Shandur on Sunday.

Both, the people of Ghizer District and Chitral (NWFP), lay their claims over the property rights of the abandoned areas in Shandur, which is also the world’s highest polo ground above the sea level and attracts thousands of tourists every year during the polo carnivals.
