KARACHI, June 20: The body of a man was fished out of the sea near West Wharf on Thursday.
Police said the dead man was identified as Javed Jalal, aged 55. A suicide note was recovered from his pocket. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for autopsy.
CARJACKING: Twenty-one vehicles — 10 cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, police said.
Nine cars were hijacked. One was stolen.
Nine motorcycles were hijacked. Two motorcycles were stolen. Police also claimed on Thursday to have recovered four cars and five motorcycles in the city.
SHOT DEAD: Bandits shot dead a young man in Orangi Extension in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police said two armed men entered a house in sector 11 1/2 at morning prayers’ time. When the bandits were fleeing away after looting cash and a bicycle, Khan Bahadur, aged 17, tried to chase them.
During the chase, the bandits opened fire on Bahadur. He received two bullets. He died on the spot. The bandits escaped.
Bahadur’s body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.
A man allegedly shot his father to death in Kalakot.
Police said Haji Ahmed, aged 60, was shot in the chest allegedly by his son Riaz, who was absconding.
Haji Ahmed’s other son Mohammed Karim suffered a bullet wound to his hand.
The body was sent to Civil Hospital for autopsy.
Unidentified assailants shot dead an elderly man in Mauripur on Thursday.
Police said the victim, Lal Mohammed, aged 65, was a vegetable seller, and he lived in Kakri village, Mauripur. On Thursday morning, area Nazim Allah Bakhsh informed police about the body lying in the victim’s hut. He had received two bullets.
The body was sent to Civil Hospital for autopsy.
ARRESTED: Police arrested eight Afghan nationals in Liaquatabad on Wednesday night for staying in Pakistan without any legal documents.
The DSP Liaquatabad said eight Afghans were arrested in a raid on Zeenat Square in Liaquatabad.
All of them were staying in the city without any legal documents.
They were identified as Ismail, Agha Jan, Abdul Malik, Mazroob, Adam Khan, Abdul Ghani, Sardar Mohammed and Abdullah.
Police arrested a bandit in Saeedabad on Thursday after an exchange of fire with them.
Police said a vehicle (KF-7091) of a private distribution firm was supplying items to shops in sector 12-E in Saeedabad when two armed men robbed the firm’s salesmen of cash.
Two policemen, posted at a nearby kiosk, chased the two bandits in the busy market. The bandits opened fire on police, who returned the fire. Police arrested one of the bandits, identified as Aleemuddin. The other bandit escaped.
Police recovered the stolen cash and valuables from the possession of the arrested bandit.
