RAWALPINDI, June 18: The special judge of anti-terrorist court, Safdar Hussain Malik, here on Tuesday sent the five PML-N leaders to Adiyala Jail on a 10-day judicial remand.
Those who were remanded in police custody included Zafar Ali Shah, Muhammad Riaz Gujar, Farooq Khattak, Shahid Riaz Satti and Maqbool Ahmad.
Earlier, they were brought to the court at 4pm where dozens of PML-N workers and supporters welcomed them amid warm clapping.
The defence counsels, Abdul Khaliq Bhatti, Qari Abdur Rashid, Razaq A. Mirza, Raja Amin and Nadeem Bhatti contended that their clients had not committed any criminal act publicly and had held a peaceful rally on a national issue.
The defence counsels added that the accusations that they (accused) had snatched a helmet and stick from a constable were baseless and had not been mentioned in the FIR of city police station.
They said that the accused had already been granted bails in the cases of 16-MPO and sections 186/188/148/149/ and 353 PPC by a civil court and should be exempted from 7 ATA which was a baseless accusation.
