BAJAUR, June 16: The business community here on Saturday postponed its strike against the installation of electricity meters in the tribal areas of Bajaur Agency for a week following successful negotiations between the traders and a reconciliatory Jirga.
The traders community observed strike against the installation of power meters on Thursday and a complete wheel-jam was observed in Khar, the agency headquarters. Traders also kept their shutters down as a mark of protest.
A discord has been developed between the traders and the political administration over the installation of the meters and the authorities had constituted a reconciliatory Jirga to sort out the issue with the people of the agency.
The Jirga decided that the administration would not install meters at the business centres while the traders would postpone their strike.
Chairman Anjuman Tajiran Khar Haji Khan Badshah, however, said that the tribesmen would not budge on the issue and asked the NWFP governor to postpone meters installation till coming local bodies elections in the agency.
