JAMMU, June 12: Indian police said seven people were killed on Wednesday near occupied Jammu when a gunbattle erupted between the Lashkar-i-Taiba and the Hizbul Mujahideen.

Members of the two outfits fired at one another in remote Mithwan village, in Doda district, some 185 kilometres north of held Jammu, a spokesman said.

“The gunfight took place in Mithwan village and lasted for well over an hour. Six Hizbul Mujahedin militants (freedom fighters) and one Lakshar-i-Taiba militant was killed in the armed clash,” said the spokesman. —AFP
