SUKKUR, June 9: Hundreds of villagers blocked the National Highway near Ghotki on Saturday to protest against an armed attack on Khairo Chachar village in which a man was killed and a woman was kidnapped.

Carrying body of the killed villager, Khadim Hussain Kori, the protesters demanded registration of an FIR against influential Chachar tribesmen who were allegedly involved in the incident.

Later, when the Katcho Bindi police registered an FIR against Imam Bukhsh Chachar, Qadirpur Nazim, his brother, Mohammad Nawaz Chachar, and ten others, the protesters dispersed peacefully with an assurance from the police that the culprits would be arrested in 48 hours.

Earlier in the morning some 12 armed men barged into the house of Khuda Bukhsh Kori and tried to kidnap a woman, Hanifa wife of Sawan Kori.

When the inmates of the house offered resistance, the attackers opened fire, killing Khadim and injuring three others, including his farther-in-law and mother-in-law.

The assailants continued firing for about 20 minutes and then fled with the kidnapped woman and looted valuables.

The villagers informed the Qadirpur police post about the incident but to no avail.

The villagers took the injured persons to the Ghotki Civil Hospital where no doctor was available and the villagers provided first aid to them.
