KARACHI, Oct 30: A five-year-old girl died in mysterious circumstances in Mehmoodabad on Tuesday.

Police said Rehana went out of her house to play in the evening. She returned complaining of stomach pain and died before she could be taken to a doctor. Police said, sensing some foul play, the girl’s parents reported the matter to police.

The body was sent to JPMC for post-mortem to determine the cause of death. According to a medicolegal officer, the girl had bruises on her face and thighs.

A duty officer at Mehmoodabad police station said the girl might have died a natural death. But things would be clear after autopsy and histopathological reports were received, he added.

However, Edhi source said they had received information that the girl was throttled to death.
