KARACHI, June 7: Twenty-six vehicles — 16 cars and 10 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Friday, the police said.
Eight cars were hijacked. Eight others were stolen.
Four motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.
The police also claimed on Friday to have recovered 10 cars and three motorcycles in the city.
KILLED: Unidentified assailants shot a couple to death in front of their children in their home in Chakiwara on late Thursday night.
The police said that Munir Ahmed, aged 40, and his wife Samia, aged 30, and their four children were in their home at Afshani Gali in Chakiwara when four unidentified armed men barged into the house.
The police said that the masked men shot the couple one after the other in front of their small children. The couple’s fourth child is hardly 7-8 months old, the police said.
The police said that at the time of the incident three children were present in the house, and the eldest child was at a relation’s place.
The assailants escaped.
The couple was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
The TPO of Lyari Town, Swaleh Mohammed, said that according to the information they had so far, the killing seemed to be the result of personal enmity. What lent credence to this line of thinking was that the intruders had not touched valuables or household items, he added.
Munir Ahmed had moved to Karachi from Quetta some nine to ten years back and got married in a local family, the TPO said.
The police said that Munir owned an old rickety bus of route 4.
The four children were under the care of their aunt who resided in the same locality, the police said.
Munir’s brother-in-law Mohammed Aqeel lodged an FIR against unknown persons, the police said.
WOUNDED: Bandits shot and wounded three men in the city on Thursday.
The police said bandits shot and wounded two men in a milkshop in Mehmoodabad on late Thursday night. Five armed men came to a milkshop in Azam Basti, Mehmoodabad, and demanded cash from the shopkeeper.
When the shopkeeper, Yousuf, and his assistant Abdul Qayoom tried to put up resistance to the bandits, they opened fire on them and escaped.
A police mobile, which happened to pass by the area at the time, chased the bandits and arrested two of them. The three others escaped.
Those arrested were identified as Ali Mohammed and Sattar. The police recovered a pistol, a dagger and a motorcycle from their possession.
Bandits shot and wounded a fruit seller in his home in Orangi Extension on late Thursday night.
The police said that bandits shot and wounded Sher Khan, aged 35, in his home when he put up resistance to them.
