KARACHI, June 6: City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, said on Thursday that the City Government will consider awarding degree status to Baldia Town Intermediate College.

He was talking to girl students during a detailed visit to the college.

During his visit to various sections, the Nazim was informed that a part of the building has decayed and as a result, the Arts section has been shifted. The City Nazim said that he would appoint a body to take stock of the building’s repair work and submit a report thereof.

On the occasion, the girl students also complained that there are 800 students in the college and it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to continue their studies beyond Intermediate.

Naimatullah Khan asked the college Principal to put forward this demand of the students in writing.

He also visited the building of the Boys Secondary College, Baldia Town, which, too, is in bad shape and has remained unused after construction.

He directed the District Coordination Officer, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, to take steps for repairing the building and the starting of classes there.

WATER: Meanwhile, the City Government has also approved Rs5 million to solve the problem of water and to supply water to residential areas in Baldia Town.

The amount would be used by Karachi Water and Sewerage Board for implementing incomplete schemes to check contamination of drinking water with sewerage water.

Besides, six additional rooms will also be constructed on the upper floor of the main office of Baldia Town Municipal Administration for which the City Government will provide funds.

Decisions in this regard were taken at a meeting of Nazims, Naib Nazims and Councillors of UCs of Baldia Town held under the chairmanship of City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, on Thursday.

On the proposal of Nazim UC-2, Ittehad Town, it was decided to carry out boring at the bank of Hub River in search of water resources which are believed to be available in abundance there and would help solve Baldia’s water problem.

It was decided to disconnect all water connections given to cattle pens, marble factories, hotels, barber shops, etc, within a week, while the number of water tankers to sectors 11 to 14 and 17, Yusuf Goth, Saadullah Goth, Dawood Goth and Hasan Goth in UC- 3 where water lines have not been laid, would be increased.

It was decided to shift the underground water pipeline at Hub River Road for which funds will be made available from Khushhal Pakistan Programme. The defective valve of KWSB’s 33-inch line will also be replaced within a week.

The City Nazim said that priority should also be given to control water pollution.

He told the councillors that only 2 per cent recovery was made from Baldia Town on account of water charges which was disappointing.
