KUWAIT CITY, May 5: The construction of Pakistan embassy in Kuwait has been delayed due to the objection raised by Capital Development Authority regarding the annual lease amount in Kuwait.

Sources told Dawn that Pakistani ambassador to Kuwait Shafkat Saeed has sent a proposal to the government to build its own mission in order, but the CDA has objected to the idea saying that the annual lease amount in Kuwait was very high.

The Pakistan embassy in Kuwait at present pays rent of KD2,300 (Rs460,000) per month when the annual amount for leasing land for embassies in Kuwait is KD 2500.

Sources said that a proposal has been presented to the CDA to settle the issue mutually with Kuwaiti officials to reduce the annual amount, but still there has been no headway in the matter.

Sources said that Pakistan, which badly needs foreign exchange, cannot afford lavish spending and it would be essential to start construction of Pakistan embassy without delay.
