Rs30m for dualizing bypasses

SAHIWAL, March 26: The Punjab governor has approved a grant of Rs30 million for dualizing Sahiwal and Chichawatni bypasses along the GT Road.

This was disclosed by district Nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan during a press conference at the local Press Club on Monday.

During his visit to Sahiwal, the governor approved a sum for establishing a neuro-surgery unit at the Divisional Headquarters Hospital and for providing three new dialysis machines for the cardiology unit during the next fiscal, the Nazim said.

He maintained a separate grant was promised for the provision of sui gas and sewerage system to the leftover areas of Sahiwal and Chichawatni. The government had granted a sum of Rs20 million for setting up schools in the district, he added.

On the governor’s directions, he said a grant of Rs900,000 had been provided to 89 union councils and Rs200,000 for mending walls and purchasing furniture for schools. A sum of Rs4 million had been provided for various development schemes for women in the district, he said.

Mr Khan pledged to provide Rs100,000 to the local Press Club by April 10 and to appeal to the governor for releasing more grants for the club.

APPROVED: The district council approved establishment of 17 wheat purchase centres to achieve the purchase target of 0.19 million tons in Sahiwal, district Nazim said.

He said the growers would be provided 150 gunny bags (bardana) without depositing security to bring their produce to the purchase centres in Sahiwal, Kamir, Harappa, Chaks 138/9-L, 150/5-L, 182/9-L, 170/9-L, 90/12-L, Dad Fatiana, Kassowal, Kamaand, Iqbal Nagar and Chak 119/7-DR.

Weighing scales would be daily checked and certified by the department, he said, adding the centre committees would ensure maximum help to the growers.

SHOT DEAD: Bandits in different parts of the district on Monday shot dead a farmer, injured three other people on resistance and took away vehicles and valuables worth hundreds of thousand of rupees.

Setting up a picket between Thatha Bahadar Singh and Chak 48/GD, a gang bagged Rs200,000 in cash and wrist watches and drove away with a motorbike.

Meanwhile, some bandits deprived motorists of a pick-up (LHN-9653) and a tractor (MNM-454) in Chak 66/EB and Chak 10/11-L, respectively.

Some highwaymen injured three people, including Ali Muhammad, and escaped with wrist watches near Chak 84/5-L.

Police have registered separate cases.

SLAIN: Three people were slain on Monday in various parts of the district.

One Azam was clubbed to death by co-villagers Naseer and Tasawur in Chak 115/7-CR.

In Nama Samoor village, a man killed his wife over suspicion of illicit relations.

One Fatima was found murdered under mysterious circumstances in Chak 70/4-R.

Police have registered separate cases.
