KARACHI, June 5: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said that equal attention will be paid to the implementation of development schemes in all areas under the local government system.

He was talking to two delegations of citizens from Jacobabad and Nawabshah, who called on him separately in the Governor House.

The governor said problems could be solved only through collective efforts.

In the local government system, he said, it had been ensured that powers were devolved to the grass root level and elected representatives could take decisions on their own.

In this regard, the Nazims, Naib Nazims, councillors and elected councils at all levels of district, Town, Tehsil and union council would have to play their respective roles.

Mr Soomro said the government was preferentially working in all the sectors in liaison and cooperation with the elected representatives. He said heads of all the departments had been given clear instructions for cooperation with the people.

The governor said the government’s focus was on bringing improvement to the quality of life of the common man for which attention was being paid to all sectors.

He listened to their problems relating to water, agriculture, forest, police, education and other departments and issued on-the-spot instructions to concerned officials.

The members of the delegation, supporting the policies of President Pervez Musharraf, announced their cooperation with the government at every level.

They said the people of Sindh would never spare any sacrifice for the cause of national security, stability and unity.—APP
