KARACHI, March 15: An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Friday three bike hijackers to suffer rigorous imprisonment for ten years.
Judge Khan Parvez Chang of ATC-4 also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 each on accused Kamran, Arif and Javed, who had deprived Muhammed Yousuf of his motorcycle on May 9 last year at gunpoint within the limits of the Chakiwara police.
The judge ordered that on default of the fine the accused would have to undergo an additional one-year term.
The three were arrested by the Chakiwara police on May 11. The case had been registered at the Anti-car Lifting Cell (ACLC) and it was investigated by Inspector Tariq Qadri.
The state was represented by special public prosecutor, Feroz Mahmood Bhatti, who examined eight witnesses against the accused.
ACQUITTED: The special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, sentenced a drug peddler to suffer rigorous imprisonment for 15 months.
Vashdil was arrested on March 2, 1997, with 150grams of charas by Malir police.
The judge imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on the drug peddler, who was on bail, and he ordered that the convict would have to undergo an additional three-month term in case of default on the payment.
The same court acquitted two men, charged separately for possessing different quantities of charas.
Mohammed Ilyas, a police constable, was arrested on November 2, 2000, for possessing 700gram charas by SHO of Tipu Sultan police station, where he was also posted.
The judge exonerated him from the charge as the prosecution could not prove its case.
The second accused, Samarqand, was arrested and booked on November 30, 1999, for possessing four kilograms of charas by the Al-Fallah police.
He was acquitted in the case as the prosecution could not produced the seized narcotics, which was stolen from the police station.
