FAISALABAD, March 9: The government has prepared a plan to nominate officials of law enforcement agencies and other departments as member of the committees which run the affairs of mosques, madaris and imam bargahs.

Local administration sources said on Saturday that the names of government employees for the purpose were being finalized.

All district police chiefs and Nazimeen in the province had been directed to monitor performance of deeni madaris. They had also been directed not to issue no-objection certificate (NOC) for setting up any religious institution in their jurisdiction till the announcement of a policy in this regard by the Punjab governor.

There are 1,496 mosques in the district out of which 1,186 are of the Sunni school of thought, 177 of Ahle Hadith and 133 of Deoband school of thought. There are 155 deeni madaris of these three schools of thought and 155 imam bargahs in the district.

Over 90 per cent mosques, imam bargahs and deeni madaris are being run through donations by philanthropists.
