KARACHI, Feb 16: Water supply to almost entire city will be badly affected on Sunday as pumping of water from nine out of the 13 pumps of Dhabeji pumping station remained suspended for seven hours on Saturday in the wake of some maintenance work undertaken by the KESC.

KWSB sources told Dawn that as there was no electricity at the Dhabeji pumping station from 9.30am to 6.30pm on Saturday, the city on Saturday received a short supply of water ranging between 40 and 50 million gallons and as such most parts of the city would either go completely dry or get scant supply with low pressure on Sunday.

They said though pumping of water to the city from Dhabeji’s five diesel pumps continued on Saturday, the shortfall of water caused due to the non-availability of power at the pumping station had caused a gap between demand and supply positions of the city.

Pumping of water from the Dhabeji had begun shortly after restoration of power supply at 6.30pm, it would take at least 15 hours to normalize the water supply position, they added.

LEAKAGE: Complaints of water gushing out from a 48-inch dia pipeline have been received from Sikandarabad in Liaquatabad.

People residing in Sikandarabad’s house Nos 514 and 515, near Liaquatabad’s Peeli Kothi, complained that a considerable quantity of water coming out from the pipeline was passing beneath their courtyards.

“Though we have ourselves diverted the water coming out from the leaking pipeline towards the adjacent street, one can see water being accumulated on the street.”
