HYDERABAD, Feb 4: The president of Hyderabad Hindu Panchayat, S. Lal Ahuja, has appealed to President Gen Pervez Musharraf to restore the minorities’ reserved seats as enjoined in the 1973 Constitution.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he praised the president for the restoration of joint electorate system in the country. He demanded of the government to arrest the killers of Sudham Chand Chawla without any further delay.

He said Jacobabad police should also be directed to provide protection to Kanwar Lal Chawla, the brother of the slain leader, and other members of their families.

Mr Ahuja appealed to the Hindu Panchayats, the entire Hindu community, and minority councillors of the province to unite on one platform on this issue.

POWERHOUSE: The resident engineer, Lakhra Powerhouse, has said that unit I and III of the power house had been closed for normal repairs and maintenance and they would start functioning on Feb 6 and 10 respectively.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he dispelled the impression that the powerhouse had been closed. He said that Lakhra Powerhouse was functioning on coal and it was extremely necessary to carry out maintenance and repair of its units every month.

He said that unit I and III were functioning as usual till the last week of Jan and added that unit I was closed on Jan 25 and unit III was closed on Jan 20.
