HYDERABAD, Feb 3: The children belonging to the Sujag Baar Tehrik (SBT) staged a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Sunday to protest against the proposed privatization of schools.
Talking to newsmen, the central president of the SBT, Ayaz Ali Samoon, and general secretary, Qamaruddin Khoso, said that the bureaucracy of Sindh under a planned conspiracy wanted to keep the poor children illiterate through privatization of the government schools.
On the one hand hooliganism, terrorism, copy culture and corruption had destroyed the educational institutions of the province and on the other the bureaucracy was trying to abolish Sindhi language in the schools, they deplored.
They said that there was a universal law that the children should be educated in their mother tongue but this rule was not being followed in Sindh.
They demanded that the proposal to privatize schools in Sindh should be shelved.
MINORITY: A large number of youths under the banner of the Minority’s Marwar Naujawan Ittehad staged a rally here on Sunday to express solidarity with President Gen Pervez Musharraf and the armed forces of the country.
After marching on the main city roads, the rally terminated outside the press club.
Speaking on the occasion, cuncillor, union council-16, Hyderabad City, Babu Lal Thakur, said that the minorities would fight side by side with their armed forces against the enemy of the country if war was imposed on it.
He said the people living in Pakistan whether they were Muslims, Hindus or Christians were patriotic citizens of the country and they were ready to sacrifice their lives to defend the motherland.
Meanwhile, the former SRTC workers continued their hunger strike outside the press club on the third consecutive day here on Sunday to protest against the non-payment of their dues.
Radio and TV artist from Shahdad Kot, Larkana, Imdad Hussain Solangi with his wife and seven children also continued token hunger strike outside the press club here on the second consecutive day on Sunday.
Solangi with his family members is protesting against the kidnapping of his minor son Irfan Solangi.
