KHAIRPUR, Jan 31: The government has announced agriculture policy, according to which four hundred thousand ton wheat will be purchased in Sindh through the procurement centres.

This was said by the provincial minister for agriculture, food, and livestock, Hassan Ali Chanhio, while speaking at an open kutchehry held at the circuit house here on Thursday.

He said that during the last year, in wheat procurement, there were 90 per cent complaints regarding misappropriation and corruption of the officials of the food department. In Khairpur district the food inspector of taluka Gambat broke the corruption records, while the DFC instead of taking action approached him for his honesty.

He announced that this year, powers of the food inspectors had been curtailed whereas the growers would declare their wheat stocks till Feb 28, to bring the figures on the record of the food department.

The growers complained regarding spurious pesticides, fertilizers and said that even illegal shops were running in the district. The minister assured action will be taken against the responsible dealers.
