KARACHI, Jan 27: The families of police martyrs will continue to get full salaries of the martyrs till their attainment of 60 years of age in addition to payment of compensation by the government, group insurance as well as recruitment of their brothers or any other relatives.

An announcement in this regard was made by Sindh Inspector General Police Syed Kamal Shah while the “Bara Khana” and Darbar at the Central Police Office held to honour the recently promoted 1,114 officers and jawans of Karachi Police.

The IG said the implementation of this decision had started on Jan 19.

Syed Kamal Shah said the promotions of Sindh police officers and jawans in a such short time was a record. The promotions given in the recent few weeks were never given during the last 10 years, including 2,000 promotions in Karachi alone while thousands others were being allowed in the interior of Sindh which would be completed in the next two weeks, he said.

The Sindh police chief said that besides these promotions, which ranged from the post of constable to additional IG, the Sindh government had approved the creation of new posts of three additional IGs, two DIGs, 15 SPs, 200 inspectors and 720 head constables.

He said some 200 inspectors would be promoted as DSPs by next week.

Syed Kamal Shah said that 50 per cent of Rs450 million fund announced by the president for police buildings and quarters would be available during the current financial year and the rest by the next fiscal, and the schemes would be finalized by June 30.

He told the Darbar that Rs25,000 per family of police martyrs, as announced by the president, had also been received and would soon be paid to them.

The IG said that cases of highway robberies and kidnapping for ransom had declined by 95 per cent and cases of kidnapping were reported only in two districts.

He asked the officers and jawans to come up to the expectations pinned on them by President General Pervez Musharraf and make all-out efforts to eliminate crimes from the province and particularly check the cases of robberies and car thefts from Karachi.

The IG said the process of fresh recruitments in Sindh had started after seven years and would be completed in a month or two.

Earlier, the DIG of Karachi, Tariq Jamil, in his welcome address, said that recently 738 head constables of Karachi Police had been promoted as ASIs and 376 ASIs upgraded to the rank of SIs, and constables would be promoted to the rank of head constables in the next few days and this process would be completed in districts after one week.

He said these promotions would raise the morale of Sindh police jawans and officers, who would now work with a new spirit.—APP
