LAHORE, Jan 26: The Jamaat-i-Islami will seek electoral adjustments with other parties in the forthcoming general elections.
The decision was made at a JI political committee meeting held here on Saturday. Prof Ghafoor Ahmad, a JI Niab Amir, presided over the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ahmad expressed his concern over the constitutional amendments proposed by the government. He said the decisions to restore joint electorate, increase women’s representation and enhance the number of seats in the National and Provincial Assemblies was only the first phase of amending the constitution.
If the changes were accepted, he said, in the next phase the government would delete the Islamic provisions in the constitution, change the nuclear policy and make presidency more powerful than the parliament. He urged the political and religious parties to reject the proposed amendments.
Liaquat Baloch, another JI Niab Amir, urged the government to restore political activities in the country.
