Two colleges declared ‘best’

GUJRANWALA, Nov 19: The Punjab government and Inter boards committee of chairman declared two educational institutions ‘best’ on the basis of an average grade point.

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, awarded cash prizes and commendation certificates to the principals of both the institutions in a ceremony held in the board complex, here on Monday.

Board secretary Muhammad Ahtaram Dar said the Municipal Model Girls High School, Jalalpur Jattan, and the Punjab College of Commerce, Gujranwala, stood on top on an average grade point of matric and Intermediate annual examinations held in 2000.

The board chairman Khalid Mahmood Dhariwal awarded cash prizes and commendation certificates to Girls High School principal Ms Ifat Masood and Punjab college principal Muhammad Arif.

KILLER: Satellite Town police claimed on Monday to have arrested an alleged killer of Pakistan Dental Association president Dr Ghulam Rasul from Lahore.

Police received information that suspect Khwaja Ismail was present in Lahore in the house of his son-in-law Nasir Cheema, the main accused in the murder case. A police team raided the house and arrested him. It is reported that Nasir Cheema has gone to Spain.

Police authorities said he would be arrested soon through Interpol.

The third accused, Mansha Cheema, is already in police custody.

It is reported that the accused had received Rs600,000 from the brother of Dr Ghulam Rasul to send him abroad. But they failed to fulfil their promise and refused to return the amount. As Dr Rasul was pursuing a criminal case against the accused they became infuriated and shot him dead about a month ago.

Meanwhile, the killers of student leader Naeem Bhatti have not yet been arrested.

Mr Bhatti was killed by the activists of Muslim Student Federation over an election row about two weeks ago.

SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES: A man who sustained bullet injuries in Aroop village two days ago succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Monday.

The children of Jabir Khan and Zabtey Khan had a quarrel while playing. The issue was taken up by the elders seriously and Jabir and Zabtey exchanged fire as a result of which former died on the spot while the latter sustained bullet injuries.
