DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 15: Four people received bullet wounds when an exchange of fire took place between protesters and the law enforcement agencies at Wana, South Waziristan Agency, on Monday.
The injured included two militiamen, one child and a woman.
The procession was taken out by the tribesmen of South Waziristan from Wana as a mark of solidarity with the Taliban. When the protesters reached Wana bazaar, the tribal law enforcers blocked the road. In the meantime, some protesters fired into the air, which triggered firing.
According to an official statement, the tribesmen exchanged fire with the personnel of South Waziristan Scouts and Frontier Constabulary when the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Kohat visited the area by a helicopter.
When the copter was about to land, some people from the demonstration opened fire on it, which was returned by SWS and FC personnel. This resulted in gunfire all over the area which continued till last reports came in.
The situation is under control and the GOC returned safely, the official statement added.
A resolution was adopted which condemned the US for continuing air strikes on Afghan people resulting in casualties to civilians.
ABBOTTABAD: A strike was observed here and Havelian against the bombing of Afghanistan. While all bazaars and shopping plazas remained closed, thin traffic plied in the city.
After Zuhr prayers a protest rally was taken out from main Jamia Masjid Abbottabad which after passing through the main bazaar ended at the main city chowk where religious and political parties leaders addressed. They included Waqar Gul Khan Jadoon, Qari Mehboobur Rehman, Maulana Iltafur Rehman, Maulana Siddique Sharifi, Mehboob Elahi, Sardar Jehanzeb, Malik Sajjad, Maulana Mohammad bin Alam and Maulana Shafeequr Rehman. All the speakers criticized the American attacks on Afghanistan.
Speakers also criticized the role of Pakistan government and said that a movement would be launched against the government against the decision to provide its air space to the US.
HARIPUR: A strike was observed here on Monday on the call of Defence of Afghanistan Council. However, business activities resumed in the city after the protest procession ended.
A protest procession led by Ulema of different religious parties was taken out from Adda Darband, which after marching through the main bazaar turned into public meeting at main chowk.
Speakers warned the US of desisting from killing civilian population.
They said that the US had never been a trustworthy friend in the past and could never be relied upon in future. Maulana Abdul Malik, Qari Gul Rehman, Maulana Abdul Haq were among others who addressed the rally.
KARAK: A procession was taken out under the aegis of Pakistan-Afghan Defence Council, led by Maulana Sakhi Badshah.
The protesters put on fire the effigy of president Bush. When it reached Saddam Chowk, it turned into a public meeting which was addressed by Maulana Abdur Rehman, Maulana Mohammad Sahir Qureshi, Maulana Kifayatullah, Maulana Noor-ul-Wahab and Maulana Ali Usman.
They condemned attacks on Afghanistan. They also criticized the firing on workers of JUI procession in Jacobabad.
They also condemned the government for giving air space to the US. They vowed that if the government did not change it policy, they would launch countrywide agitation.
The meeting adopted a resolution demanding of the government not to enter into any agreement with US in this regard.
