ISLAMABAD, Feb 12: After 10 days of constant rain, the people in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad heaved a sigh of relief as there was no rain on Saturday but the sky remained heavily overcast.

The sun peeped out of a thick cloud cover for a brief period as met office has forecast another spell of rain next week, which will enter Pakistan from Balochistan.

"Before the current spell of rain dies down there is another one coming which will cause rains in Balochistan and Sindh," the met office said.

The federal capital will have more rains next week. The met office said after three days, Sindh and Balochistan would also experience 'very cold weather'.

The met office regretted that rumours were spread that an earthquake would strike some parts of Pakistan sometime early Saturday morning.

"It is unfortunate that such rumours were created. Everyone knows, even a school child, that an earthquake cannot be predicted. It was only a rumour," a met office spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi presents a spectacle of a slum with heaps of garbage on almost every street corner and the choked gutters overflowing.

The roads, which are hardly ever taken care of by the officials concerned, have broken at a number of places after the heavy downpour.

"The sanitary staff of the TMA seems to have gone on holidays as the garbage keeps lying on the roads for days on end," complained Shafiq Ahmed, a resident near Commercial Centre.-APP
