MIRPURKHAS, Feb 7: About 29 constables and head constables of the district have been transferred to Badin and Thatta under orders of Regional Police Officer Mohammad Bachal Sangri.

The policemen transferred to the Badin district include Habibullah, Ali Bux, Hyder Bux, Mohammad Yamin, Mohammad Ramzan, Chanesar, Jan Mohammad, Mohammad Aachan, Abdul Ghaffar, Nazeer Ahmad, Shah Jahan, Abdul Ghafoor, Rawat Ali, Nazar Ali, Mohammad Anwar, Khuda Dino, Mohammad Waris, Muzaffar Ali, Ghulam Qadir, Mushtaq Ahmad, Ghulam Qadir and Mehrab. Those transferred to the Thatta district include Nasim Malik, Irfan Khethriwala, Akhtar Abbas, Mohammad Siddiq, Zulfikar and Mohammad Riaz.

People of the area have termed the transfers political victimization because majority of the transferred policemen belong to the Panhwar community. Elders of the community have convened a meeting to discuss the issue.

MPA: People's Party Parliamentarians MPA Shamim Aara Panhwar has expressed concern over transfer of 22 police constables, belonging to the Panhwar caste, from Mirpurkhas to Badin.

Talking to journalists here on Monday, she said that those transferred included Shah Jehan Panhwar, the brother of Abu Bakar who had been killed in police custody in January.

She said that the transfers were an instance of political victimization of the members of the Panhwar community and workers and office-bearers of the PPP.

The MPA said that her party wanted peace in the city but police were trying to create a law and order situation through victimization. She called upon the chief minister and governor of Sindh to ensure withdrawal of the transfer orders.

BAIL: The district and sessions court has confirmed bail before arrest of the MPA and others. The MPA, her husband Hamza Ali Panhwar and party activists were booked in two cases for creating law and order situation and damaging private and government property.

Talking to reporters, MPA Shamim Aara alleged DPO Altaf Hussain Bhatti of political victimization. She said the DPO was responsible for disturbance in the city after custodial death of Abu Bakar Panhwar. She claimed leaders and workers of the PPP had taken efforts to maintain law and order in the city.

OFFICE RANSACKED: Over 200 residents of Khad Plot, Gharibabad, Pak Colony and other areas ransacked the office of the Taluka Municipal Administration and smashed windowpanes during their protest against accumulation of sewage in various parts of the city.
