KARACHI, Jan 20: All the 18 town administrations in the city have made elaborate plans to lift and dispose of offal from their respective jurisdiction during Eid holidays.
The town municipal administrations have also cancelled the holidays of the officials concerned so as to facilitate the task of lifting and disposing of the offal as well as to ensure cleanliness.
According to the town nazims, they had already instructed the officials concerned to ensure that the places from where offal would be removed were sprayed with insecticides.
Meanwhile, some town administrations have arranged special containers for disposing of offal in a hygienic manner.
The nazims have asked the people that in case the offal was not removed promptly, they should immediately lodge their complaints either with their locality's union council, or the TMA concerned.
Giving details, an official of the city government said that City Nazim Niamatullah Khan had already asked the town administrations to set up camps in each union councils of their towns so that offal might not remain scattered on roads and pavements.
The city nazim, who is in Saudi Arabia for performing Haj, through a letter sent to the town nazims, has instructed them to chalk out comprehensive plans in collaboration with the union councils concerned, to ensure that the offal lifting and disposing work was carried out smoothly on the pattern of last two years, so that the city roads, streets and pavements might look clean.
He has also asked the nazims and the officials of towns and KWSB to ensure cleanliness around mosques, Imambargahs and Eidgahs.
Through another letter, the city nazim has directed the officials of the KWSB to make proper arrangements to respond to the public complaints pertaining to overflowing gutters and sewerage lines, besides ensuring equal distribution of water in the city during Eid holidays, so that people might not face any difficulty.
However, unlike previous years, the KWSB has failed to announce the telephone numbers of its complaint centres on the occasion of Eidul Azha, where people could lodge their water and sewerage related grievances.
Residents of different city localities hit by menace of overflowing and choked gutters said that it was amazing to note that at a time when complaints concerning overflowing gutters and leaking pipelines had already increased on the eve of Eid Azha, the KWSB's was silent over the issue.
