KARACHI, Jan 20: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan has said that the Sindh Local Government Commission (SLGC) has lost its credibility due to its misuse by certain elements in the Sindh coalition.
He accused these elements of using the commission for their 'malicious political interests'. However, he welcomed any probe against him, saying that he had never done anything contrary to rules and regulation.
Mr Khan, who is in Saudi Arabia these days to perform Haj, said in a telephonic conversation on Thursday that the inclusion of his name in the investigation against some CDGK officials had "exposed dishonesty of some elements in the provincial government.''
The city nazim pointed out that the recent transfer of some senior city government officials was aimed at slowing down the pace of development work in the city.
He said he would clarify the situation at a press conference on his return and would also expose the elements who were trying to "make a mountain without any mole.''
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the CDGK, in a statement on Thursday, said honesty and fairness of City Nazim Niamatullah Khan had been acclaimed by people from all walks of life.
He pointed out that federal Minister for Local Government Justice (r) Abdul Razzaq Thehim had paid tribute to Mr Khan for his honesty and righteousness at a ceremony held a few days back where Sindh Minister for Local Government Waseem Akhtar was also present.
The spokesman referring to a reported statement by the Sindh NAB DG, Maj-Gen Haroon Sikander Pasha that Niamatullah Khan was not involved in any misappropriation. - PPI
