MIRPURKHAS, Nov 27: The National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses is a revolutionary plan with an allocation of Rs22 billion for Sindh.
This was stated at a meeting held here at the Darbar Hall to review ongoing work of lining of watercourses under the programme.
The meeting was informed that millions of rupees would be spent on lining of watercourses, and that after completion of the programme, huge quantity of water would be reserved for the agriculture sector.
Irrigation and agriculture officials, representatives of On-Farm Water Management and revenue DDOs were present at the meeting.
SEMINAR: Speakers at a seminar have called for implementation of the existing laws to check discrimination and violence against women.
The seminar was held at a club here the other day under the aegis of the Citizens Action Committee to mark the international women's day.
Speakers Imtiaz Panhwar, Rais Ahmed, Arif Khan and others stressed the need to implement laws to check the increasing incidents of violence against women.
They said that women formed a large part of the population and, as such, progress of the country was impossible by excluding them.
INJURED: A lawyer, Iqbal Rind, received injuries in an armed robbery here.
