Match-winning knock by Sharjeel

KARACHI, Nov 8: A superb unbeaten 91 by Sharjeel Ashraf guided Karachi Whites to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Multan in the PCB Inter-region Level-II One-day cricket tournament match at the UBL Sports Complex on Monday.

Sharjeel, who hit six fours and one six in his 100-ball knock, put on 109 for the third wicket with opener Mohammad Farrukh as the hosts won with almost three overs to spare.

Farrukh made 74 off 92 balls while striking seven fours and one six. Rashid Ali scored 37 in the unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 84 with Sharjeel.

Earlier, Multan finished at 242 for nine in their quota of 45 overs with opener Hasnain Abbas (54 off 51 balls, eight fours) and Mohammad Ali Arif (51 off 65 balls, four fours) being the main run-getters.

Slow left-armer Fahim Ahmed claimed three for 47 in nine overs while off-spinners Atif Maqbool and Mohammad Masroor took two wickets apiece.

Lahore Whites, meanwhile, were involved in a narrow two-wicket win against Hyderabad at the PCB Regional Academy ground.

Wicket-keeper Shahbaz Butt (66 off 92 balls, six fours and one six) and Mohammad Saeed (52 off 63 balls, four fours and two sixes) scored the bulk of runs as Lahore Whites made 194 for eight in 44.1 overs.

Leg-spinner Iqbal Shaikh captured three for 36 in nine overs.

Earlier, slow left-armer Osama Aftab bowled an excellent nine-over spell that fetched him three for 22 as Hyderabad, who chose to bat first, were restricted to 190 for nine in 45 overs.

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: A 70-run fifth wicket partnership between Sabtain Badar and Shahid Muzaffar helped Faisalabad beat Lahore Blues by three wickets at the LCCA ground.

Sabtain scored 56 (off 65 balls, three fours and three sixes) and Shahid (46 off 34 balls, four fours and three sixes) as Faisalabad reached their target with 4.3 overs to spare.

Peshawar beat Karachi Blues by two wickets at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar. Set to score 253 for win, Peshawar romped home scoring 256 for eight in 44.4 overs.

Sialkot notched up a five-wicket triumph against Rawalpindi at the Jinnah Stadium in Gujranwala.
