QUETTA, Oct 20: Former levies officials in the district of Nasirabad, who have been merged into police force, vacated on Wednesday all the three police stations they had occupied two days ago to press for the acceptance of their demand after successful negotiations with district administration.

The district Nazim of Nasirabad, Babu Amin Umrani, along with district officials held talks with them and assured them that their just demands would be accepted.

Later, the protesting levies official handed over the control of three police stations to police force. District Police Officer Ghulam Mehmood Dogar assured them that their demands would be sent to the higher authorities for consideration.

However, he made it clear that after abolishing the levies force in Nasirabad, the levies personnel had been inducted in the police force and now they were part of it.

He said that in future buildings for new police stations in Nasirabad would be constructed in such a manner so that such a situation could be avoided. He said the levies force was merged into police on Sept 13 with their consent. After merger they continued to work without any problem till two days back.

Sources said that disciplinary action could be taken against levies personnel for violating discipline.

Around 300 former levies men who had been inducted in police force in Nasirabad district ousted SHOs and other police staff from police stations in Dera Murad Jamali and announced restoring levies stations two days back.

Later, they removed the board of the police station and put 'Levies Thana' board at the police stations. They also changed the number plates of official vehicles.

They were of the view that promises made to them at the time of merger were not being fulfilled despite passage of one month.
