KARACHI, Oct 19: The performance and problems with regard to the 'Tawana Pakistan School Nutrition Programme/ Package' came up at a review meeting held at the Sindh secretariat on Tuesday.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjrani, decided to promote departmental cooperation so that the target of providing quality nutrition to over 0.1 million girl students in Sindh province could be met. Besides, district committees would also be activated for releasing funds in this regard.

The meeting also decided to organise the district steering nutrition committee meeting every month in Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Badin and Tharparkar districts to execute the nutrition package successfully, while secretary education would hold a meeting once every two months.

It was further observed in the meeting that component NGOs of the programme would ensure enrolment of non-enrolled female students, while saying that strict actions would be taken against provision of sub-standard nutrition to girl students.

Secretary General Administration Aijaz Hussein Qazi, Secretary Education Nadir Ali Markhiani, Secretary Planning and Development Anzar Hussein Zaidi, MD, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Brig (Retd) Muhammad Sarfaraz, DCOs of Thatta and Mirpurkhas, delegates of NGOs THAR DEEP and HANDS also attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, in another meeting, also presided over by the Chief Secretary, Muhammad Aslam Sanjrani, problems regarding admissions to private medical colleges came under discussion.

The meeting decided that Additional Secretary Health Dr Iqbal Daudpota would prepare a working paper to solve the problems of private medical colleges, and present it in the provincial cabinet meeting.

Secretary Health Professor Noshad A. Shaikh, VC, Ziauddin Medical University Shahid Aziz Siddiqui, Gen Azhar Ahmed of Baqai Medical University, Dr Iqbal Qureshi of the Hamdard University, also attended. - PPI
