LAHORE, Oct 18: Four members of a family were buried alive and six others sustained injuries when the roof of a room of their Fatehgargh house collapsed in Harbanspura on Monday.

Injured Naeem Akbar told police that his neighbouring house had been under construction for weeks. Labourers begun work on Monday and damaged the common wall between the two houses, he said.

He said he along with his wife Shamim Akhtar, 30, mother-in-law Saeeda Bano, 50, brother-in-law Ayub and son Fawad, 6, were sitting in a room when its roof collapsed burying them all. Two labourers and three members of the neighbouring family also got trapped in the debris.

Residents launched a rescue operation. Later, police and other civic agencies, including bomb disposal squad and fire brigade, also joined them.

All the wounded people were retrieved from the rubble in a three-hour rescue operation, and were rushed to hospital.

"We have received four people dead," administrator Attiq at Malik Hospital said. He identified them as Akbar's wife, his mother-in-law, brother-in-law and minor son.

Of the six other injured people, he said three were discharged after giving first aid and two others were admitted to hospital while the sixth one was referred to the Lahore General Hospital. He got some head injuries.

The bodies have been returned to the family without autopsy. No case has so far been registered.

Quoting family, police said Kiran, 18, was scolded by her father over a trivial issue. She locked herself in a room and shot at herself with the pistol of her father.

She died instantly. The police have removed the body to the city mortuary for autopsy to ascertain the cause of the death. No case has so far been registered.

FOUND DEAD: A youngster was found murdered near Green Town Railway Station in Kot Lakhpat police limits on Monday.

Watchman Ismail told police that he saw the body close to the platform. He had been slaughtered, he said. The police sent the body to the city mortuary for autopsy. A murder case was registered with no arrest.
