ISLAMABAD, Aug 28: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and President of Albania Alfred Moisiu held official talks here on Saturday. According to a press release issued here by the foreign ministry, President Musharraf briefed President Moisiu on the situation in the region , particularly the state of relations between Pakistan and India.

He underlined his commitment to a result-oriented dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues. The president reiterated his support to the Albanian position on Kosovo. Situation in Afghanistan and useful role of the Albanian peacekeepers in bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan was discussed.

The president emphasized that while there was a need to strengthen political relations, a greater emphasis was also required to consolidate and expand economic, commercial and defence cooperation.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed ways and means of further enhancing bilateral cooperation in diverse fields.

President Moisiu fully appreciated and acknowledged the commitment of President Musharraf to eliminate international terrorism and extremism.

The Albanian president expressed his gratitude to the president for extending support to the Albanian position on Kosovo. Both leaders agreed that an early resolution of Kashmir and Palestine disputes and return of normalcy in Afghanistan and Iraq were essential for global peace and security.

President Musharraf accepted the invitation of President Moisiu to pay a visit to Albania.
