SHIKARPUR, Aug 28: A People's Party Parliamentarians activist attempted suicide by shooting himself with a pistol here on Saturday to protest against PPP leader Asif Zardari's imprisonment.

The president of the PPP, Chatto Mangi union council, Garhi Yasin taluka, Asif Ali Buledi, entered the office of a newspaper in the Lakhi Gate area and, after raising slogans of "Jeay Bhutto," went to bathroom where he fired at right side of his chest.

The police rushed to the site of the incident and shifted him to the Civil Hospital where his condition was said to be critical. However, doctors were trying to save his life.

Earlier, he had twice tried to commit suicide to protest against imprisonment of Mr Zardari and cases against PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto but his life had been saved and he arrested on both occasions.

Last week, he had again announced to commit suicide on the day of Shaukat Aziz's taking oath as prime minister.
