BAHAWALPUR, Aug 28: A protective embankment will be constructed with an expenditure of over Rs40 million to stop erosion in River Indus near Chachran Sharif and Rukanpur, Rahim Yar Khan district.

It is learnt that the provincial government will provide funds necessary for the purpose during the current financial year. With the construction of the spur, the area people living under constant threat of erosion for the last several years, will be protected for good.

A source told Dawn on Saturday that the construction work of the embankment could be started within next two months after the release of funds.

SANCTIONED: The Punjab Small Industries Corporation's regional committee at its meeting held here on Saturday sanctioned over Rs8 million loan for the local small industrial units.

According to a press release, a total 12 applications of the three districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan were approved for the loan.

The corporation claimed that so far it had sanctioned Rs170 million loan for 168 small industrial units. Out of them, around 95 industrial units were provided over Rs85 million loan.

This was stated by Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Sheikh Abbas Raza after a meeting with high-ups of railways. He claimed that railway officials agreed with him when he apprised them of the importance of the on line system and its need at the local railway station.
