MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 28: A fireworks store owner was arrested whereas two others managed to escape after police raided their shops along a busy road here on Saturday.

Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Tayyab told Dawn that the Bank Road traders' union had complained through an application that some fireworks' stores had reopened in their area.

The traders, he said, feared a recurrence of the deadly incident in which six people had been killed and 14 others wounded in August at the Bank Road in an explosion in two fireworks stores and called for an appropriate action.

Thus, a police party raided three stores and seized explosive material and some dangerous fireworks in good quantity, said Mr Tayyab.

The assistant commissioner said Shaikh Muhammad Shabbir, owner of one shop, was arrested on the spot where Khurshid Abbasi and Tanvir managed to flee.
