LAHORE, Aug 7: Rain lashed the Punjab capital on Saturday afternoon improving weather conditions despite humidity. According to the Met office, weather in Lahore will remain partly cloudy with chances of thunderstorm during the next 24 hours.

The maximum temperature was 36.6 degrees C and the minimum 28 degrees C with 82 per cent humidity in the morning and 62 per cent in the evening.

The Met office said Friday's monsoon low over central Madhya Pradesh had almost dissipated. The westerly wave over Afghanistan was moving across Kashmir. A strong monsoon current from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal would soon be reaching the Punjab up to 7,000 feet above mean sea level.

The weather pattern is likely to cause moderate rain with heavy falls at one or two places over the upper catchment areas of the Jhelum, the Chenab and the Ravi besides northern and northeastern Punjab.

Scattered rain of moderate intensity with one or two heavy falls are expected in central Punjab and Sindh. Isolated light to moderate rain is likely to occur over the upper catchment areas of the Indus, central NWFP, northeastern Balochistan and southern Punjab.

Rainwater could not be cleared till evening from several city areas causing traffic muddles at various places in northern Lahore.

The Jhelum at Mangla and the Ravi at Balloki were in low flood.
