KARACHI, July 31: The Sindh Local Government Commission has asked City Nazim Naimatullah Khan to appear before it within 10 days to clarify the position of the allotment of plots on a nullah, commonly known as 'Americano', in Saddar Town.
The commission, in its 21st meeting held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Mr Wasim Akhtar, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Local Government, discussed the inquiry report pertaining to the affair.
The meeting decided that the matter be dealt with under section 25 of the SLGO-2001 and the city nazim be given an opportunity to explain the position by appearing before the commission in person.
The commission disposed of a 24-item agenda which included illegal allotment of a three-acre piece of agricultural land by the TMA Kandiaro, illegal transfers/postings at Mithi by zila nazim as alleged by DCO Tharparkar, illegal recovery of Cattle Piri Tax by TMA Jhuddo as complained by Jhuddo Welfare Association, offer for contract of Katcha Piri at sub-office Dhoro Naro, complaint against taluka nazim by TMA Matli, Badin district, and a reference made by DCO Mirpurkhas for legal action against a UC nazim.
Regarding Kandiaro land case, the commission decided that the matter be referred to the Anti-Corruption Establishment for registration of cases, besides departmental action, against the officials involved and the taluka nazim be asked to bear all the losses suffered by the TMA.
Regards illegal transfers/postings in Mithi, the commission decided that the nazim be asked to exercise his own powers. As a policy, all DCOs and nazims be asked not use others' powers.
The meeting endorsed the action taken in the case of the Mirpurkhas DCO's reference against a UC nazim.
The commission also took up a complaint about financial irregularities against Gulshan Town nazim. The commission advised the city nazim for external recall of the town nazim. It noted that instead of taking any action, the city nazim was delaying the matter. It decided that a final reminder be issued to the city nazim in the matter.
On a complaint against UC Nazim of Nasir Colony, Korangi Town, the commission decided freezing of the UC's accounts, issuance of show-cause notice to the nazim and action to be initiated against the UC's secretary.
The commission took a similar decision regarding complaint against the nazim of UC-1, Mominabad, Orangi Town.
On a complaint of poor quality work in UC-6, Gharibabad, Malir Town, it decided that the UC's accounts be frozen, show-cause notice be issued to the UC nazim and matter be reported to the ACE. A similar action was decided in the case of a complaint about malpractice by nazim of UC-3, Saudabad, Malir.
Taking up the issue of working paper pertaining to the UC-8, Jat Lines, Jamshed Town, the commission decided that city nazim be asked to initiate action against the UC nazim for his external recall.
It ordered a detailed inquiry into the embezzlement of Rs7.7 million by UC Dhabeji and a fresh inquiry covering technical aspect of the complaint against the nazim of UC-8, Rangiwara, Lyari Town.
Regarding complaint against TMA Malir about non-payment of contractors' dues, the commission said that since the nazim of Landhi Town was not responding, the issue be inquired properly and reported to the commission. - APP
