QUETTA, June 12: Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousuf on Friday urged students to prepare themselves for combating the challenges of modern age by obtaining higher education.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony of the Bolan Textile Mills building to the Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences, the governor underlined the need for giving more importance to the education sector in the province. He said higher education had an important role in creating future leadership. He said Balochistan needed an educated leadership.

Federal Industries and Production Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi handed over the documents of the building worth around Rs1.5 billion to the governor, who is the chancellor of the university.

Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation Chairman Azhar Elahi Jafrey and BUITMS Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Abbas Chaudhry singed the documents.

The governor thanked Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and federal ministers for taking interest in handing over the mills building for the BUITMS and the Sardar Bahadur Khan Tuberculosis Sanitarium building for the women's university.

He said petroleum, mining and marine engineering programmes would be launched in the university.

He the federal higher education and information technology minister had promised to provide Rs190 million to the IT university for establishing modern laboratories. He said a PC-1 had been prepared in this connection. He said classes would be started in the new building by September.

The chief minister said the government was taking all possible steps for providing modern education to the new generation.

He said: "We are moving ahead with the vision of a developed and modern Balochistan, giving top priority to the promotion of education."

He urged the youth to utilize their abilities for the development of the Muslim world, the country and their province.
