ISLAMABAD, May 8: Water inflow in major rivers of the country - Indus, Jhelum, Chenab and Kabul - has improved considerably due to recent rains in various parts of the country, especially in upper parts of the NWFP and the AJK.

Talking to APP here on Saturday, an official of the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) said recent rains in various parts of the country contributed a lot in water inflow of the rivers, especially Indus, Jhelum, Neelum, Chenab and Kabul.

The Irsa official said due to better inflow in rivers, water situation was getting better and further improvement was expected in the next week.

Giving details about the Mangla Dam, he said water level at Mangla was recorded 1,099.65ft, about 60ft above the dead level of 1,040ft.

Water inflow at the dam remained 51,920 cusecs and outflow was recorded 36,000 cusecs. "We are expecting further water level improvement due to the increase of inflow at both the major water reservoirs," he said.-APP
